The Cypriot port city of Larnaca, allegedly the oldest city in Cyprus, is located on the island’s south coast. It attracts divers and beachgoers in equal measure, thanks to its 16-mile stretch of sand and impressive dive sites.
The main beaches here are Phinikoudes and McKenzie and both are reputed for their cleanliness. Larnaca also attracts a lot of divers keen on exploring the wreck of the Zenobia, a ferry that sunk just a few metres offshore. Shopping opportunities also abound in Larnaca, and popular souvenirs from the region include lace and silver items from the nearby village of Lefkara. Larnaca also has a small nightlife scene, with a small assortment of nightclubs located in the Laiki Yeitonia neighbourhood.
Accommodation in Larnaca is varied and includes everything from self-catering apartments and hotels to luxurious beachfront resorts. The Larnaca International Airport, the largest on the island, offers regular flights to destinations worldwide.
