Straddling the coast, in the heart of Egypt’s popular Red Sea region, the 22-mile-long beach at Hurghada has become one of the top beach spots for foreign and Egyptian tourists alike. Like most Red Sea destinations, Hurghada is a great place to observe marine life through snorkelling and diving, although water surface sports, such as windsurfing and kiting, are also popular.
While independent travellers may prefer staying in a hotel, most visitors to Hurghada make their ways straight to one of the many resort towns in the area. The oldest of these is Al Quseir, which dates back to the days of the pharaohs. Lovers of luxury will not want to miss the nearby resort enclave town of El Gouna, which boasts golf courses, sports facilities and some excellent shopping.
Hurghada’s international airport serves destinations across Egypt and Europe, acting as the gateway to the Red Sea Riviera for many travellers. Trains and busses are also available from Cairo and other locations across Egypt.
