Moscow is the capital of Russia. Moscow is the financial and political center of Russia and its biggest ?ity. The city has a population of around 13 million, and covers an area of around 1080 km². Moscow is in UTC 3 time zone. Moscow is a large metropolis located on the Moskva River, which bends its way through the city. Most of the main sites are on the northern bank of the river. The other major waterway is the Yauza River, which flows into the Moskva east of the Kremlin. Moscow has a humid continental climate climate (Koppen climate classification Dfb) with warm, somewhat humid summers and long, cold winters. Typical high temperatures in the warm months of June, July and August are around 23 °C (73 °F), but summary 1-2 weeks from may to september temperatures are higher than 30 °C (86 °F); in the winter, temperatures normally drop to approximately -9 °C (15.8 °F), though there can be periods of warmth with temperatures rising above 0 °C (32 °F).
